Are Drug Safety Advisories Compatible with Physicians’ Information Behaviour?

Physicians critically depend on up-to-date risk information when prescribing drugs, but they typically have little time to navigate the vast information. In European Union, Direct Healthcare Professional Communications (DHPC) letters are distributed physicians mitigate drug risks that emerge after market approval, show low impact. This study characterises general practitioners’ (GPs) behaviour regarding safety and assesses compatibility of DHPCs with identified behaviour. We conducted 17 semi-structured interviews four follow-up Danish GPs about concerns analysed them using Wilson’s model found primarily use an online monograph for point-of-care needs a newsletter from authorities clinical management strategies. They generally did not consider useful source argued numerous sources contained same as DHPC believed these be superior in terms convenience, relevance, quality evidence. A new digital mode delivery public authority may improve adoption also generated problems. Overall, this suggests their current form very compatible GPs.
